The above image is from the Lascaux Caves in Dordogne, France. Dating back almost 20,000 years, images of bulls, horses, birds and men cover the walls and ceilings of the network of caves. These are among the earliest known examples of art; the purpose not being purely decorative, considering the relative lack of lighting, but for the documentation and study of nature.
